About

I’m an AI researcher, machine-learning engineer and data scientist with over 10 years of experience in AI and software development. I founded Shaped in 2021 to help democratize break-through AI research and make the technologies found at big-tech accessible to everyone. At Facebook AI Research (FAIR) I created PyTorchVideo, the leading video understanding PyTorch domain library. I was also an initial core-contributor to PyTorch Lightning, a library that has standardized how deep-learning models are trained and is now used by millions of developers.

My publications and research interests are in video understanding, 3D vision, medical imaging, and, more generally, deep-learning. My writing can be found on the Shaped Blog.

2021–Now

CEO & Co-founder @ Shaped

New York, NY

Shaped is an API for ranking and recommendations. We use real-time AI to create personalized discovery experiences for marketplaces and content platforms.

2016–2021

Applied Research Scientist @ Meta

New York, NY & Menlo Park, CA

Facebook AI Research (PyTorchVideo): led a team with 20+ collaborators that focused on creating video understanding algorithms across research and production.

Facebook AI Research (fastMRI): engineering lead for the fastMRI team, our goal was to accelerate MRI acquisition time by up to 10x ( we got to 8x! ).

Building 8: Computer Vision lead for a confidential AR hardware product. Focused on multi-task deep-learning and hand-tracking.

Applied Machine Learning: Worked on 3D Vision tasks such as SLAM, tracking and depth-prediction to enable AR products in Instagram, Facebook and Oculus. Several of the product experiences are still used by millions of people daily.
